Oh, let me translate

Oh, let me translate that:

'Hey guys! Just started my account to promote my new game, entitled, "How to Launch a Failed Kickstarter." Having sold 12 copies to our friends and 2 copies to our mothers, we now anticipate our KS crashing and burning in spectacular fashion. As much as I am looking forward to participating in the forum and benefiting from the experience here in the future, phew, I really would have saved myself a lot of bother if I'd just gone and done that initially.

Oh. I see now...

Well. While I know that meanness is easier than actual wit, I am embarrassed to say that I expected less unprovoked derision from a community that is generally so inclusive and helpful. Oh, though maybe I was asking for it with my awkward suggestion that we might want to participate more in the future. That WAS stupid; I know how offensive sincerity can be.

Of course this wasn't to say that we had never been to the site, nor that we didn't rely during the design and testing phases on the expertise of others (We did. Heavily. Though often not online since we already have an extensive network here). The fact that I joined the forum in order to promote our game is a little iffy, I'll admit. But while I do often read forums, I hardly ever join, mostly because I dislike THESE types of interactions.

I know blatant advertising is annoying. I hate it too. Which is why I am so bad at it. But Soulfinger seems to suggest that if my project fails, it's because I didn't take advantage of the expertise here sooner. There is almost nothing on this forum about getting the word out though, which in my opinion is my main downfall. There is a how-to saying you should limit your online advertising to sites already dedicated to gaming, and isn't that what I'm doing here? In fact, isn't that one of the main purposes of the press releases section of this forum, to get the word out about upcoming games? Perhaps not, perhaps Soulfinger was purposely deployed in order to discourage start-up game designers.

It's possible there are errors in my game not related to marketing, though even if there were, Soulfinger wouldn't know it since he rejected us based SOULY (see what I did there) on principal. Oh well. I appreciate it anyway soulfinger. Your response, while discouraging me from further participation in this forum, has led a few people to actually look at the campaign, for which I am eternally grateful.

Oops, ranted too long, didn't I. I suspect I'm just asking for it now. Oh well. I can't really blame Soulfinger. He's got to uphold his rep, right?

Thing is, this a boardgame _designers_ forum.
A better place to post these things would be here: https://boardgamegeek.com/forum/31/boardgamegeek/press-releases

Having a post of a "hey, here's a game we've made, please back us" kind gets you the reaction above. You didn't come here for discussion or advise or sharing experience.

As for "why your game will fail", Soulfinger's assertion wasn't based on the fact of you posting. But rather on what's on your KS page.
