TheGameCrafter.com made shipping insurance mandatory. What does this mean for people outside the US? F*** YOU, that's what.

Prices skyrocket for TheGameCrafter.com overnight without a warning. All sales outside the US double in price in some cases before the high shipping is even added! You can view the confirmation here (not even the dignity to post it in their news section):

I left a message explaining

I left a message explaining my view on customer service:
"Options make for happier customers."

Unfortunately many companies, including Google don't care, but hopefully TGC will see sense.

I've also posted about some other shipping-related improvements, so even if the prices don't change, at least we'll be able to see the potential costs ahead of time...

Priority Mail is ALMOST the same price

Hmm... Something is not RIGHT. Here's my order:

2x Tradewars - Homeworld (Prototype 8) = $36.06

Shipping options are as follows:

USPS First-Class = $14.75 + $1.15 (Handling Fee) + $12.99 (Insurance)
Total = $63.95

USPS Priority = $30.60 + $3.33 (Insurance)
Total = $69.99

Why is *insurance* only $3.33 for Priority mail and $12.99 for First-Class mail??? Shouldn't the insurance be the same or close to it? Not FOUR times the price!?

Why would insurance amount to

Why would insurance amount to a third of the price of the product being shipped?

Is TGC is even legally allowed to get into the insurance business? They said on their site that they themselves are offering the insurance. I thought going to the insurance biz came with all kinds of paperwork and legal hoops.

Only for shipping

Only *shipping insurance* offered by the US Postal Service. I don't know how the insurance works but basically if your product arrives damaged, the Postal Service will eat the cost of having to produce and ship a new game.

I'm not certain is the USPS absorbs ALL the cost or it is halved between TGC and the USPS...

I don't use the gamecrafter

I don't use the gamecrafter because their shipping prices were already too bloody high.

I wanted to use them for

I wanted to use them for publishing my game since they now had 8"x8" board. Besides 1 prototype I am going to oder from them, I am not going to order more, so it would not hinder buyers in US, but I agree that it could restrict people from outside US to buy stuff.

Personally, I think they should make it the default option that could be removed and explain the consequences of removing the option.

That site lacks in what I want.
The printer on my work does a better job.

Not the ideal outcome, but

Not the ideal outcome, but TGC listened to the outcries and lowered the insurance to 5% (equal to US customers).
Listening to complaints and offering a compromise I haven't seen many companies do lately, so although it's not ideal, I consider this a good thing: they can be moved to act upon reason. If you plan your game right, it should be more affordable now.

Still not 100% certain

Although this is a FAIR outcome, I'm still not sure about it 100%.

What concerns me is that First-Class Mail (the cheapest method) is NOT TRACKABLE.

On November 22, I ordered 4 games that can in 2 boxes using First-Class Mail. For BOTH I received a TRACKING NUMBER... And I tracked the boxes via USPS and Canada Post. It was fantastic.

Now I'm not so certain... Because First-Class Mail says that it's NO LONGER TRACKABLE???
