I don't know about others, but I rely a lot on avatars to identify the other users, even more than user names for most people. So I'm totally lost right now with most users not having an avatar (or having a new one), especially since some users have a different user name than they used to.

So, is it too silly to ask for users to keep their avatars for a while? I know maybe it IS too silly.

Sounds like a reasonable request to me.

(BTW, the new site looks great.)

Good to hear I'm not that

Good to hear I'm not that neurotic, then. :-)

BTW, congratulations on The Heavens of Olympus being published! When (and where) will we be able to read and see more about the game?

you can keep it

No problem Matthew. I already spent like two months after the previous migration, when you changed your username from FastLearner to MatthewF, to realize you were you. I got you faster this time :-)

Keep your new avatar, I like it a lot too.

Thanks seo. I've submitted a game description to BGG so you'll be able to read a bit about it as soon as the admins approve the submission.

I also agree about the white border around the avatars. So far, I'm liking everything about the new look to the site.

I just realised that my avatar is my BGG image not my old bgdf image...seo, can I keep it? The colors go so nicely with the new site.

OK

OK, you can, but just because you asked nicely. An because it is nice. And because it's your BGG avatar. And because you always answer to my forum and blog posts. And because we spent so much time working on our WBI games. And because deep down, I'm not just anal retentive, but also a nice fellow.

Hello all!

Is my avatar showing up? My setup screen was giving me some trouble with it. I tried switching it to a swanky new avatar, but the site wouldn't let me. My original is a classic, I guess.

That's new

The avatar I see (an elegant green curl) is new for me. Your classic brainy reading tree seems to be gone.

Seo's avatar

I really like your avatar Seo, how did you make it? Is it just a photoshop filter applied to an image, or is that original artwork? Sorry Seo, I changed my avatar as well as everyone else.

Here's a problem with the site, I hope Zzzzz can help. I uploaded my avatar image, and now I am unable to change it. I have deleted it, but when I upload a different image, it re-uploads the old one. Weird, or what?

No, HE is an owl!

Redcap asked: "That's an owl?"

That is Howland Owl, from the comic strip Pogo by Walt Kelly. In my posting above I wished I could colorize the image, and Seo kindly did so for me!

It's a detail from an antique woodcut image. I just added color in Photoshop. I originally used that image for an illustration several years ago; when I came to BGDF in Feb. 2005 I took that same pic and re-colored it for my avatar. If I ever get 30 Gold in BGG, I guess I'll buy an avatar and use that same image. Otherwise, everyone will jump on me for not using the same avatar. LOL.

That's not a site problem, it's your browser cache showing the cached image. Clean your cache or force your browser to reload the avatar image and you'll see the new one.

On your old avatar showing

On your old avatar showing up, if you can't get a refresh to do the trick, you might try giving your new avatar a different filename. I found that I couldn't get mine to refresh (even after wiping my cache) until I gave the new one a new name.

So how do you get highlighted quotes like that?

So how do you get highlighted quotes like that?
I think I will need to study a primer on this new input. Not quite as easy as the old one it seems. Is there an quick way to quote?

What are the diffs between Filtered HTML and Markdown?

Do you always have to preview before you post?

Can you watch a thread?

Quotes

John:
I don't think there is an automated way to quote previous posts, at leas I haven't find any. I'm not familiar with Markdown (though it seems to be a good and powerful option), but I am familiar with HTML, so I just picked Full HTML under Input format and placed the quoted text inside some div blocks.

And yes, you have to preview before you post. I'm not sure if that can be changed. I concede it is a bit annoying at times, but a couple times it has helped me fix some typos before I post, so I guess there's a bright side to it.

Attention admins!

Well it still is not working, even when I change the file name, and clear my cache. Well, if an admin can see this post before 8/05/08, please delete my user, and I'll re-register. I guess re-registering wouldn't hurt anything, considering I haven't put any personal information up on this site.

Thanks admins!

Didn't work

Thanks for your effort Zzzzz! I tried re-uploading the image, but that didn't work. So, please delete my acount and I will try again. I know it seems silly to go through all this trouble but I think we should sift through all of the problems with this new software and troubleshoot them. Thanks Zzzzz!

I was able to change it, so

I was able to change it, so this is even more odd than I originally thought. If you dont mind being the test case, I would like to attempt to identify this issue with your help.

Try changing you image again, if you still upload the same image, try to post your avatar image to the site via the create content->image option. Once it is there I will change it for you, to see what happens.

After you hit save, look at the top are of hte page and see if you have either of the following text displayed

The image was resized to fit within the maximum allowed dimensions of 85x85 pixels.
The changes have been saved.

This text is *a lie*. It will not automatically resize etc etc, so your image will not be uploaded.

Ok I lied about it being *a lie*. It seems like any *LARGE* images are processed down, but it take a little while for the conversion to occur.

Try uploadnig you avatar image and wait an hour or so. Maybe there is an issue with how fast some images are being coverted down

lucasAB or Zzzzz's avatar copycat?

All this talk about lucasAB not being able to change his avatar is quite mysterious, as Zzzzz and me (both using our regular user test accounts, not the admin ones) have had no problem deleting or replacing avatars. To add to the mystery, right now lucasAB's avatar looks exactly like Zzzzz's avatar with the white Z removed. Maybe you replaced the lucasAB avatar image, Zzzzz?
