Calculating discounts

I've always been bad when calculating discounts...

In my specific scenario it goes something like this:

The Game Crafter price = $70.00 (includes shipping to US only).

My KS price = $50.00 (includes shipping worldwide).

So basically it is a minimum reduction of $20.00. Here's where I need some mathematical help:

Is it $20 / $70 x 100 = discount? = 29% discount?

or $50 x 1.4 = $70.00 = 40% discount?

I know this is pretty much "basic" math - I'm just not certain... Sorry if this seems "dumb" - I've always had difficulties figuring margins, discounts, markup, etc.

Thank you.

20/70= 28.5% discount Another

20/70= 28.5% discount
Another way to figure it is 50/70, which comes out to 71.5% of Game Crafter price. So a 28.5% discount.

If you use the KS price as the base, it will cost 40% more to order direct from TGC

Discount is the amount that is being taken off the regular price. So if you've got a regular price of $70 and you're offering $50, you've taken $20 off the price and that is the discount. When describing a discount as a percentage, it is the fraction of the original price that is taken off. So the discount as a percentage is 29%.
