Well I purchased a couple copies of EPIC (http://www.epiccardgame.com/) as a gift for a friend who really liked to "collect" Magic but could never figure out HOW to play the game (he didn't know that to build a competitive deck - he would need doubles and triples of cards).

I figure if I learn how to play EPIC, I can teach him how to play the game... (A step further than playing Magic! :P) He has another friend who used to be into Yu-Gi-Oh! Another famous TCG, so he can play the game with another opponent.

I paid $50 CAD for 2 Sets (One for myself - obviously) and includes FREE shipping with Amazon Prime (4-8 business day delivery).

I'm sorry that I missed out on the "KS Campaign" ... but I figured I'd support the EPIC "crew" with buying a couple copies!

Is there anyone else who got in on the KS action and bought a copy of the game???

Meh

I already tried this game and I couldn't really get into it.

I think it's the way they handled resources...it's 1 or 0. It tries to get rid of mana screw/mana flood by creating almost no resources, but even then there's still risk of that. In addition, it didn't seem too original; they were clearly aiming to be a MTG fixer/killer...what about just making a whole new system?

Maybe it's me, but I just didn't like it...I wanted to like it, but I couldn't.

Knowing what I know NOW...

If I had known that buying booster packs was NOT the way to get into Magic, I would have told my friend "Save your money." Competitive decks in Magic require doubles and even triples of specific cards. Otherwise like I have found with my own game "Tradewars - Homeworld", a 60 card deck - means you will be waiting for a specific or combination of cards to re-occur. And it will take time...

I like the idea that it's a 30 deck of cards, "Tradewars - Homeworld" optimal deck size is 25-35 cards. So nothing new that I haven't already figured out with my own game.

But it's 30 cards out of 120... So there is a lot of replayability. And obviously since you are randomly choosing 30 cards, you can get "screwed" in other ways than being "Mana screwed". Your opponent may have better cards in his 30 card deck than you... "Tradewars - Homeworld" is more fair since the decks are identical - each player has the same 60 cards to build his deck from.

I'm willing to learn and give the game a try. I don't want to get back into Magic (not that I was - except for the exceptional artwork). If EPIC is a similar-type game which is simpler to play - well then that's good enough for me.

I am hoping the game has interesting battle abilities and that there are good combos you can play - to make interesting moments at the table!

Anyone else "disappointed" with this game? Or perhaps the opposite... Someone who likes EPIC??

Your comments/opinions welcome!

I got 2 copies of epic for ... 20$ during a math trade. One is still sealed and I will probably try to exchange it for another game.

I did not try it yet, but I like the 1 small box for 4 players. It handle more players than Star Realms for the same box size.

I did not have a chance to try it yet, since I am very busy with school. But It looks interesting, I like the idea of 0 and 1 cards, but I still have to try it. The advantage is that you could build a deck randomly and it would still work.

My only complaint is the keywords, where some are ambigous or not obvious. Like "tribute" which means in other words "When enter in play". It would have just been easier to have "When played -> do X".

Else it's very much a copy paste of magic. Mechanic wise, the special ability changes but the combat rules remains exactly the same. So yes, it's a more out of the box MTG game without the mana bug issues which is a big plus for me.

Here is the geek list of our last math trade

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/213018/22nd-montreal-no-ship-math-...

It happens twice a year (in montreal) around september and march) and in this case, we also had a leftover trade and a flea market auction.

Once every 2 or 3 years, I do a junk trade for people who wants to get rid of games and not necessarily get something in return.

You basically dress up a list of game you want in the list you are willing to exchange for games you place in the list. Then all request are put into a mathematical algorithm that is going to calculate all possible exchange including indirect ones, like A give to B which give to C. It's going to say A gives to C.
