Fall and as things recover ... We're BACK to CODE-RED for COVID-19

As predicted that as Fall comes around that the number of COVID-19 cases start to climb some more... We're back to CODE-RED and are being asked to isolate again and limit the amount of travelling that we do. It's hard because everyone has things to do to prepare for the Winter Season.

Anyways it SUCKS BAD! We were finally getting back to the new-normal... And now we're being asked to "shut-down" AGAIN!

It really sucks because things started to be okay... And just as this was happening, we've got to STOP! And go back a couple of steps.

This pandemic is freaken ANNOYING!

It's like we cannot escape from the direst that this pandemic creates. Let's hope this is the LAST time we need to escalate. Of course this means Mr. Trump will have to wait again for the US-Canada Border to re-open again. He's been pushing for the Border to open and Canada (in some areas) has gone CODE-RED and that means borders will stay CLOSED!

A agree, Covid Shutdown sucks

Especially, if you are under 60 and don't have any of the underlying conditions. You're more likely to die in a car wreck this year than to die from Covid... yet you don't see cars banned. (Though I shouldn't point this out, as some idiot politician will use it as an excuse to impose the "Green New Deal" and really wreck the US.)

Yes, but that's because the government added a lot of restrictions on what you can do with cars. How fast you can drive, when you have to stop at an intersection, who's allowed to drive, what safety measures have to be built into cars, etc.

Without those government rules and restrictions, there are far, FAR more injuries and fatalities from cars.

Just like COVID.

So.. great analogy!

Not sure where you get your likelyhood from;

Automobile related deaths in the US for 2019: 38,800 (down 2% from 2018 and 4% from 2017)

Covid-19 related deaths in the US for 2020 (9 months): 206,000

That's why I said under 60 and no underlying conditions. I don't remember which was 96% and Which was 94%, but one is the percentage of deaths for 60+ and the other is for Co-morbidity (i.e. another ailment or condition which when combined with Covid, led to death).

So with 206,000 deaths of Covid * 0.04 for one percent * 0.06 for the other. This means at most, 500 deaths occured when meeting these two conditions. That's far less than several thousand car deaths for the same age group this year. And honestly it's not much greater than the flu. Which is surprising being this is a novel virus.

Clarifies something, but not your assertion.

First, those are the death rates for people who contracted the virus, which value does not appear in your post. You can’t just multiply stuff and then subtract.

Second, there’s a lot of overlap between those two groups, yet again you just combine and subtract.

Still take precautions. I'm not advocating for stupidity. We still need to protect the vulnerable. I just think it's being over politicized to fear monger. I had Covid. Wasn't that bad for me. But I also know a friend who's grandparent was hospitalized briefly, so I know it's also no joke.

We do all the isolation and stuff to protect those that are. I am not afraid of dying from covid, but trying to take my responsibility to limit how far it can spread. It is great to see that a vast majority are taking it seriously, but sad to see the few that ignore the rules. We have a problem in this country with young adults ignoring the rules and just partying like it was 2019. They do not get very sick, but they spread the virus to others that then die.

No biggie. If you exclude him, there are fewer people in the White House with COVID!

It's nice to read the actual data rather than take some percentages, multiply them by the wrong values, and then subtract to "show" how few real problems there are.

About 19% of deaths (at that time), or about 20,000 people, were age 64 and under.
