Where Does Everyone Live?

I ask this question for two reasons...

1) I want to shame and ridicule all of you that are not fortunate enough to live in Texas. :-P

2) I am curious as to the viability of forming some sort of live meet-up of BGDF enthusiasts somewhere in the U.S. or Canada.

Thanks!

I'm grateful to be born and raised in the Netherlands.

Though still, would a meet up in the U.S. be doable, even if everyone happened to live there? I mean those are huge distances (certainly compared to the Netherlands).

If people are spread all over, then the answer to that would be 'no'. But....

If I can find a pocket of people in the D.C. metro area (Virginia, Maryland, D.C.)
or in the Philly / Jersey / NY area
or in the DFW metroplex (about a dozen medium-to-large cities)
or in the San Francisco Bay Area (a half dozen or so cities),

...then I would be willing to coordinate a meet-up. I could even see doing something like:

BGDF East (Something along the east coast in the NY / NJ / PA / DC region) and then
BGDF West (In the DFW metroplex)

Hey!, I could actually be there. It could give me a reason to go in vacation in Toronto? My schedule is tight, I'll talk about it to my girlfriend. Maybe hotels are less expensive in Hamilton. We check for Niagara this fall and it was less expensive to go at Disney World for 1 week than going to Niagara for 4 days.

By the way I live in Montreal.

On the old forum, there was an earth sphere where you could pin your avatar to a geographic location. From what I remember, most people were in north America.

We are located in Albany, Oregon

Not sure which Con(s) We'll be able to attend this year. Most likely the ones on the West Coast. Hopefully something good comes along financially, which will allow us to attend many of them.

Colorado.

Honestly, the best place to meet would probably be GenCon. It's not, in my opinion, central, though everyone in the midwest and east coast might beg to differ. But GenCon is big, and meeting during such an event is all too common. So GenCon is probably the best. Its a big Con. Smaller Cons might be easier to find one another, but GenCon is more likely to pull a larger number of people. (Obvuously Essen would be even better, but only for the Europeans who can drive there as easily as an American can drive to GenCon.)

Here in Montreal, we are supposed to have something called "Fiesta Ludique". Of course, it's never as big as game conventions in the states.

I never attended a game convention, maybe I could try attending once once in my life. I'll give it some thoughts.

Ahh rats! I wish I had known. My company is based in Canada. About 1/3 of my clients are Canadian. I was just in Toronto two weeks ago and I'll be in Toronto for the better part of Jan - Mar. I could pretty easily work a Toronto business trip in, but I'm already committed to being in San Jose next week.

I'm down with that. I've only been to GenCon once and that's where I ran into Jay and inadvertently demoed my 'Dominion Clone' for him (aka 'Arctic Scavengers'). It took him 5 minutes before he said: "I get it. I like it. This is actually quite different from Dominion. What do you want to do with it? I'd love to take it off your hands..."

So, Indianapolis in 2012!!!

I lived in Ann Arbor for six years in grad school, but they didn't have Protospiel then, unfortunately.

I like the idea, but...

I live in Athens, Ga. So, not close to anyone or anything, lol.

Also, I'm poor, so travelling isn't really an option for me sadly.

It's in these situation that we would like teleportation booth to exist. Being able to assist to a convention or join a group of players in another country, and repeat every week.

You teleport in the morning and get back before night fall. No hotel and luggage required. The only thing that can screw this up is ... the time zones.

Oh, they've heard of it alright...

Most recoil or flinch when I tell them I'm from Toledo. It's like they feel bad for me. I frequently get the "knowing" look when it comes up in conversation (which admittedly isn't frequent).

I've heard of Freeport in the same way I've heard of cities in foreign countries or common varieties of sea cucumbers, in that I know of them/it in a very general and vague sense. If you asked me if it was a place I'd say yes.

I hail from New Zealand.

I also get fairly jealous with you guys who are lucky enough to live in areas where you have regular cons to get together and meet other board game designers.

me two

I'm an hour north of Sacramento. I've taken the leap of getting a Dealer Table at the Sacramento Game Convention next March [Conquest Sacramento], so if anybody's coming up for that, stop by and say 'hi' at TERRAN GAMES!

If you guys get together for a Saturday event in the SF Bay Area, I can absolutely make that - it's only a two hour drive.

I'd like to try and convince more folks that do Cons to have a Design Event at their Con. I think they'd find it to be a popular event.
