I'm EXTREMELY new to game design, as in maybe about 2 weeks or so, although I've been a long time table top gamer. I had two separate and unrelated games come to me, practically in their entirety, within about a week of each other. That's never happened before... not even once.

So I'm working on designing and initial play testing for both, and I've been looking for info from *real* game designers out there and came across the forum a couple times. So I figured it's time I joined. I tend to be a lurker when it comes to forums, and since I have no experience and bring very little real world value to the table for something like board game design, I will likely be one here too. Not to mention, I haven't yet totally gotten over the whole newbie "hold your cards close to your chest" thing with talking about my idea(s). I realize from all I've been reading that game design theft is not really a thing for unpublished games, and that I shouldn't worry about it at all, but there's still a subconscious hang up on it that I'm fighting to get over. When I do, I'll start some threads and put my ideas out there, see what I can gain directly from all you *real* game designers. Me? I'm just a hack. ;)

Looking forward to learning a lot!

I'm very glad you joined the group!

Please don't discount your value when it comes to ideas and creativity, it sounds like you've got both going already!

It is hard to get over the concerns about getting your ideas stolen. There are lots of posts about it all over the place, pretty much all of them say don't even worry about it. For me, I look at it this way: I have heard a lot of really cool ideas that I wish I had thought of or would like to work on but I'm too busy working on my own! I'm guessing it's pretty much the same for everyone else. Plus, the help you will receive is really priceless, and you won't get that unless you share something. :)

Can't wait to see what you've got and hear your ideas!

I'm a hack too, by the way.

Welcome! I'm glad you've

Welcome! I'm glad you've decided to join the rest of us on the game design journey.

I put together a resource for people just starting out. It's got a ton of links that you might find useful:

And I've done a few game design podcasts as well.

I hope you find some of that helpful.

And good luck with your designs!
