The Secret to Eternal Life... and cookies

Okay, I lied, no secret. Just wanted an interesting subject. Oh look, it worked. The cookies? I ate them, snicker doodles, I made em, they were delicious. Oh board games? I love board games. I have about 170 myself and have made (currently) 10 complete games with prototypes. I have about 5 of those that I'm proud of, the other half "needs work". I would love nothing more than to be able to publish my games. If for nothing else, to have sturdy, more durable and real looking copies. I mean, sure, it would be a great career, IF that was an option. So, WHAT, exactly does this website do for game designers/makers? I was directed here by Tom Vasel, so I'm hoping for good things.

What does it do? Well, it

What does it do? Well, it doesn't take kindly to people bribing it with cookies, that's for sure!

But honestly, it does whatever you want it to. You say you have 5 completed games? Why not ask the veterans for tips about how to publish them? Or just advertise them here, by yourself, and link to whatever method you're going to use to publish them (TheGameCrafter, Kickstarter, etc).
You also have 5 games that need some spit and polish? We've got you covered. Why not start up a game journal and give us all the rundown on what each game is about? There are lots of folks on here who would be more than happy to give you tips or opinions on what you're doing. Take 'em or leave 'em, they might turn up some angles that you haven't approached yet, or provide a fresh set of eyes to look at those rough spots.

Either way, glad to have more fresh faces around here.

Krrypt! Hello, pleasure to

Krrypt!

Hello, pleasure to meet you.

Firstly ask not what bgdf can do for you, ask what YOU can do for bgdf...

And you better have cookies else I shall hulk-out.

So ok this is just a forum. That's it. It's a forum where people involved in board game design do forum things. What exactly does that entail? Well that is up to you my friend.

Ask your question a different way. Say you go to a boardgame convention that is brimming with customers, publishers, developers etc. What do you do?

Do you stand up and shout "Hey, what can you guys do for me?" as everyone looks up at you weirdly, or do you go speak to people and interact?

BGDF is just a forum. But it's a niche forum that is full of game designers and some publishers. There are a lot of very knowledgeable people lurking in the shadows. Breakfast is served 7 till 9:30.

tl;rd :

step 1. Tell us about your game
step 2. ??
step 3. Profit.

Perhaps publish one or two of

Perhaps publish one or two of your smaller designs as free print-and-play games. It will get your name out as a designer, and garner lots of useful feedback.

Thanks for the advice

Thanks for the advice KAndrew, that's good advice there.

But sorry to inform you that a 1 to 0 majority has recently banned Krrypt until he brings cookies back.

Thanks for your wise words though!
