If you have your rules in a Google Doc format, I'll proofread.

Hi, all!

I enjoy proofreading rules, but am picky about format. If you have your rules in a .docx or Google Doc format, and want feedback, I'm happy to read them over for grammatical/formatting/logic issues.

Leave me a link here, or if you'd prefer to send the document via e-mail, you can e-mail me at omenboardgames@gmail.com.

Thanks,
Kesh

Wow!

What a generous offer! I have a thread for my game "Second Line" in the New Game Ideas section with a link to a Dropbox file; it comes up on screen easily like Google docs:

Excellent Work!

THANK YOU for the rules feedback! Your editing and suggestions are much appreciated. Soon I am sending out the game you proofread for a blind playtest, so your suggestions couldn't have come at a better time.

For what it's worth, I strongly recommend keshiekay's help with rules proofreading.

THANKS AGAIN! :)

Re; Proofreading

I submitted my print and play rules to her and she was very thorough. I only wish I could have found her earlier! Her comments also forced me to use the "A picture is worth a thousand words" rule.
Thanks Again!

Take this chance!

What a fantastic gift this was for Kesh to proofread my rules...she was incredibly thorough and thoughtful in her approach, and I can certainly say she's helped my game "Second Line" communicate clearly. If you have finished rules in need of polish or just want an educated eye, you should definitely take her up on her offer!

Thanks for everything Keshiekay!!

Yep! Still happy to take a look. Just please make sure it's in Google Doc format, with editing permission enabled (and if it's PDF I convert it anyways and the formatting goes wonky).

Slash and burn on a googledoc

Hi thread, and OP keshiekay,

There is a rules googledoc linked here that needs a thorough slashing. In fact it needs, ideally, to be cut down to 2 pages. That may not happen.

This is a game under contract, and the timeline is pretty short, so any feedback in the realm of "understandability" and simplicity is requested.

Don't let the "v3" in the title of the doc put you off - it's a first draft rules doc of the 3rd version of the game. Cut cut cut!

And thank you to all who contribute, and to Keshiekay for starting the thread!

Cut cut cut. Check out page 5 for the version that I reduced to 2 pages. Mostly pictures removed or moved/wrap text added, but also some reordering and formatting for extra clarity. The first 4 pages are just text edited (no pictures removed).

Still no pictures, but I 'think' they still make sense :) If it helps to see the game in the flesh there's pictures here: Www.facebook.com/graemun

Many thanks Kesh

thanks!

Thanks Kesh!

I'll take a look through the edits today. I'm sure they will be invaluable :) I should state that using the images are key to instruction for the audience of the game (families of mathematicians who are non-native english speakers).

Thank you!

Kesh is astute and professional throughout.
She managed to turn my mutterings into something that reads far better now.

Thank you once again, I may well be back ;)

Thanks

Since english is not my first language, it was great to get some good pointers on my blog from Kesh.

Thanks.

Thank you

Thank you Kesh for looking at the rules to my game. Your proofreading and suggestions really helped me clear up sections I was worried about and led me to ideas I had not considered. I am very happy with the speed and quality of the help and appreciate it very much

How it turned out

No new ones right now, but wanted to show you what evolved from the four page beast it used to be. Thanks for your help; it was inspiration on what to trim.

Kesh went through my ruleset

Kesh went through my ruleset and pointed out a number of things that seemed intuitive to me but would be confusing to a new player. I was able to change some phrases, and redid a bunch of my formatting. Very helpful.

Hello Kesh, I would be happy

Hello Kesh,

I would be happy if you could take a look at my rules as well! It's a rather big file because it has tons of pictures, examples and artwork in it, I hope that is ok :)!

https://www.dropbox.com/s/wpeck0cf5bx3tmi/Rulesengl1.1.docx?dl=0

If you have problems due to the size of the file just let me know, maybe there is an option to reduce image quality or something!

If I can return the favor (proofreading in German anyone?), I'll gladly do so!

thanks a lot,

Jochen

Google doc?

Hey Jochen -

It'll be helpful if you can import the file into Google Docs (as stated in the thread title).

Cheers!

Hi, Jochen - Yeah, as Rich

Hi, Jochen -

Yeah, as Rich mentioned, if you could send it to me as an editable/suggestions enabled Google Doc that would be super awesome. Otherwise it's super inconvenient & it's more trouble than it's worth. :P

Argh, sorry, just read .docx in the original post and thought this would be an alternative to google docs...
I'll figure that out, sorry again!

Hey again, got it together

Hey again, got it together now! Sorry again for the inconvenience.
Had some problems because I never used Google docs before and my rules are heavy formated and contain lots of pictures (that google docs won't import :(). I split it into 2 parts:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/18N870v5skBg4VWi5BuEIMzXbGlEWPfYiVdFh...

https://docs.google.com/document/d/15JQOcHhwS6FyI0YiWQFeiS3qPYHsSJO1OdSu...

Note that every colored text would be in boxes and not part of the main text. Thanks a lot,

Jochen

You're very gracious to be

You're very gracious to be doing this, keshiekay! Incidentally, I just posted a thread about needing the rules for my game to be proofread and critiqued here: Trials of the Shard Hunters - Full rules and game, please read and critique! PnP also available

Here's the direct link to the word doc on google docs: Trials of the Shard Hunters - Rule Book (Word Doc) Its shared so anyone can edit, so please feel free to make any corrections or suggestions you like!

Shared so can edit?

Thanks, Michael, for reaching out. I clicked on the link but it brought me to a Word Doc (albeit shared on GDrive) that doesn't allow me editing access (at least in such a way that you can then see the edits, I believe. I think I'd have to re-upload?).

Could you re-send as a GDoc, either here or by e-mail? omenboardgames@gmail.com

D'oh! I fixed it so now anyone with the link can edit. I wonder if that's why I wasn't getting any responses... *rubs chin thoughtfully* I really appreciate you taking a look at it!

Hello keshiekay! Thanks so

Hello keshiekay!

Thanks so much for offering to do this. I am brand new to BGDF and this is a really awesome first thing to see.

I would love for you to proofread the rules to my card game, Kem, if you would like. I will also include a link to a Google Sheets for the deck compositions, in case there is any reason you need to see what the cards are.

Kem Rules: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1HY19dC5fHYa1UFiJx4Jvw2bZiBCtM9k5NFYB...

Kem Deck Composition: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1OLQgcoUYdjqTJwu6Qx0NQm1rx6u1erYz...

Question for you: Do you prefer to make suggestions through comments on the docs, or do you prefer to make traditional proofreading edits? Trying to figure out what type of access to grant you. Also, what is the email address you use for Docs?

Thanks again. :)
