Hello everyone!

My name is Ilmo Nurminen and I'm from Finland. This is actually my second attempt to start using this forum. The firs attempt was around nine years ago, when I created an account "pelimies", but never used it at all. So at this time I've already taken a few steps more than back then.

Want to know more about me? Here it goes: I'm 32 years old prominent game designer and an entrepreneur. I have three children and the oldest of them just had his fifth birthday.

I've been designing games for at least 18 years already, as some of my oldest game creations weren't innovative enough to be included into this.

The first serious game design project began around 13 years ago, with an aim to get it published. After some years of development we decided to start our own company and publish the game through it. That publication didn't see the light of the day though, because cost-wisely we shied off from that plan and developed an another game called Tornado Alert!. It is a standalone card game for two to six players and if you ask my opinion about it, it is well worth a try.

Our active years as a game publisher were from 2010 to 2012 and during that time we attended to the Essen Spiel three times as a publisher. Another game we've published is Shroom Boom. We also worked on a project to find a publisher for Slidey. It was originally called PGH-4 by its designer, Petri Helke, but we developed it further. During our active years in game industry we did many beginners mistakes. Finally we ended up licking our wounds and started to divert our business plan away from games. However, the fire inside me has never stopped burning and that's why we have around 50 concept ideas and more than ten playable prototypes for games awaiting when we are ready to do a comeback with well thought out plan this time. And I feel that it might happen sooner than later.

During the years I've created my own design principles and now I'm looking for ways to possibly enhance them. As a person I'm a very creative one with a capability to create decent prototypes easily but possibly not capable enough for serious illustrations tasks for final products - at least if the game is illustrations heavy one.

My game designs range from abstract multi player games to thematic ones. Usually they're born theme first but not always.

Our company is called Hyptic and I'm running it with my brother. There's a lot more things to say but perhaps not right now. Thank you for reading through!

Welcome

Welcome Ilmo, I'm new here myself but this place has a great atmosphere for designers helping each other out.

I do have one question though, there are tornadoes in Finland??? :-)

Yes there are. They are somewhat rare though and they are called trombs but the same phenomenon. The strongest ever has been class four.

Continuing to go off-gaming topic

"Finnish Tornado" may be the greatest name ever (or at least for now) for a drink or a dessert, perhaps both in the same container (Bowl? Tankard? Red plastic beer cup? Milk jug?)
