Battle Stations!

Fellow Designers,

I'm pleased to announce the launch of Kris Kycia's Tradewars ~ Homeworld (TWHW). While Kris has been quite active on the Forum (and me to a lesser extent), I'm taking the opportunity to make the announcement about our Kickstarter launch at 10 a.m. this morning. For the past few years I've served as the developer for TWHW, editing and refining the rules; setting-up more than 100 separate play-tests across three dynamic groups of awesome playtesters in Philadelphia, PA; Washington D.C.; and Fort Walton Beach, FL.; and shaping the game in a fundamentally different way than deck-builders which precede it.

While the notion of a deck-builder has remained similar from Dominion, through Ascension and Thunderstone, and lately seen in Star Realms and Hero Realms, Kris has carved out a separate path as a deck-builder which includes several clever changes for game-play, including the ability to:

1.) Retain cards after discarding for use/purchase
2.) Combine cards for lasting effect ("S'+"W"+"C")
3.) Shape their own Homeworld "market"
4.) Use turn-defining Roles to direct actions
5.) Utilize Tactics cards, mitigating the fog-and-friction of combat

If you're looking for a fast-playing, edge of your seat deck-builder with a sci-fi theme where asymmetric factions vie for supremacy...please check out our KS for Tradewars ~ Homeworld (Preview Link: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/outerlimitgames/1307607545?token=84...)

Cheers,
Joe Pilkus
TWHW Developer

Excellent!

Yet another Kickstarter from the BGDF crew with top-notch professionalism and competence at front and center. Well done!

And all your effort and energies seems to have paid off... 27 days to go and already about 2/3 the way to your goal. Outstanding effort, you all. :)

Big thanks!

let-off studios,

Thanks for your kind words. On the heels last year's highly effective KS for TAU CETI, we're pleased to bring our growing audience of gamers another title which I've been working-on since late 2014. Having done development work now since mid-2010, it takes seven or eight years to be an overnight success. Thank you again for taking notice of our efforts.

Cheers,
Joe

Yep! The Tau Ceti campaign

Yep! The Tau Ceti campaign kind of blew me away at first glance and it looks like you presented the essentials by the numbers, including gorgeous artwork and realistic & impressive stretch goals. No essential detail was ignored.

The Tradewars campaign is no exception. One small but impressive detail is that you added what you would NOT do beyond certain stretch goals, as well as listing in the "risks & challenges" section the fact that you all learned from previous campaigns. Discriminating buyers and those on the fence regarding fulfillment will be reassured by your realistic, achievable expectations being stated up front. It sounds that much more convincing that you all know what you're talking about.

Speaking as a total outsider who has never run my own KS campaign: it looks as though you've done everything right. :)

Best of success to you all. :)

One of the things I love about working with Mike and Stan from Outer Limit Games is their genuine affection for the Backers and what they do every day. We want to set realistic expectations for both ourselves and the Backers. Thanks again for the very kind words.

Joe

89% of our goal!

Appreciate all your support, keep it coming - and most importantly tell all your friends and family.

We're just about $2k from reaching our goal. So if you or anyone you know is interested in owning a copy of "Tradewars - Homeworld", please let them know...

We have also sped through the First (1st) Social Goal and are on our way to meeting the Second (2nd) one.

All extra goodies for people who follow the campaign and participate in our Social Goals which benefit all Backers!

So have a look, thumb an image (if you feel like doing so) and maybe, just maybe - add a comment. That will help speed along Social Goal #2!

Cheers everybody!

Note: Social goals are on BGG not the Kickstarter website. To learn more about our Social goals visit the Kickstarter at:

Funded!

Well within the first week we've reached our Funding Goal. Thanks again for the support from this community and broadly across the gaming community. I've been in touch with Morten Pedersen of Automa fame and am currently in the throes of crafting both an AI for Tradewars, and several scenarios.

Amyway, now it's time to reach the Stretch Goals!

Thank you!

Thank you Ogre Foot, Rick L., and BH Futurist!

Kris has designed a great game which is accessible to many different players, those new to the deck-building genre and those who have played deck-builders since its inception with Dominion. Also, Mike Strickland with Outer Limit Games has done an amazing job getting the word out...it's received a number of reviews and publications have written several articles...both in the U.S. and abroad.

We're one day over a week into the campaign and well on our way to the Stretch Goals (Funding-related) and Social Goals (Facebook, BGG, etc), so thanks to all of you who have raised awareness for the campaign...we've just gotten started!

I'm glad to hear from you!

Chris,

As someone who has been out here about as long as me, it's great to hear from you. I've enjoyed working with Kris on TWHW for a few years now, so it's exciting to see it grow and find acceptance with nearly 500 individuals now, and having worked with Mike and Stan from Outer Limit Games, we can easily see this reaching 1,000 by the end of the campaign, based on our Stretch Goals and the buzz we're generating both on Kicktraq and elsewhere. Additionally, we can count on twice that number when one considers the international buyers that purchase either during or post Kickstarter. Mike runs a great KS from beginning to end and it's tough for me to be objective but the art in our game surpasses most of what's out there in the deck-building space.

Again, thank for checking out how the game has evolved and hopefully you'll become a Backer and join in the fun.

Cheers,
Joe

Personal Thank you!

I'd like to take this moment to formalize my Personal "Thank You" for those who have helped in the successful funding of "Tradewars - Homeworld". I know several of you have backed the game - and well I would like to show my appreciation.

Be certain you will get a Deck-Builder like no other with much player interaction in those multiplayer scenarios.

If you haven't had a chance to look at the campaign, feel free to do so:

Cheers!

Echoing Statement

I'll simply echo Kris' comments as the Developer for the past few years, there are many things which make TWHW unique in the deck-builder space and player interaction is one of the most critical in the game. My first blush with deck-builders was Thunderstone and while I enjoyed that evening with friends, there was no enjoyment playing that game. I tried again a month later and...nothing.

By contrast, I do enjoy playing Dominion (2nd Edition) with my daughter, but I do not find Ascension, Star Realms, or Hero Realms as engaging, though I do respect the designers' intent and creativity.

Anyway, we're off to 500 Backers...hope you'll be one of them.

Cheers,
Joe

I supported this game back when it was on The Game Crafter, and dropped a little into the bucket earlier today.

Here's to your continued success. :)

Thank you for your earlier and current support! Things are moving today...the number of Comments are keeping us on Kicktraq and blowing through the 1st Stretch Goal is quite exciting!

We're OVER the 500 backers marker!

Well it's nice to see that we are over 500 backers! Progress has been steady and regular which is good considering in the middle of campaigns the momentum sometimes slows...

I know several of you (Designers) have pledged and supported the campaign... To this I would like to Thank You (again)... We really appreciate it.

The campaign is going good!

Cheers everyone...

P.S.: Sorry for not being as "active" as I usually am - but I've taken some time away from my duties - but touching base and seeing how things are moving forwards - each and every day...!

To my BGDF colleagues...

Thanks for your support! I'm truly blessed and fortunate to have two published games in two years. This is a great community and I hope to give back even more as time goes by.

Good press and of course, minis!

Friends,

It's great to receive additional press on the game from a solo player who enjoyed the game and we're kicking things into high gear as we introduce minis for some of the tactical aspects of the game.

Cheers,
Joe

P-n-P

Just curious if anyone over here has done the P-n-P for Tradewars...ad if so, what are your thoughts. I'm starting to receive some feedback over at BGG, so I thought other designers and developers may have additional comments, as well.

Cheers,
Joe
