Hi Designers!

My name's James and I am an amateur game designer with aspirations to one day publish my own game. Which one that will be from the rather long list of projects that have been started/put-on-hold/temporarily-abandoned is anyone's guess!

By day I actually sculpt miniatures for a living (primarily 30mm sci-fi and fantasy, but also some historical stuff - if you're interested, my Facebook page is https://www.facebook.com/brassmonkeygames/). Most of my board game ideas involve miniatures which, ideally, I'd love to sculpt myself. I try to squeeze in some game design in between work, family (3 kids) and the broader range of parental responsibilities. This usually means the ten minutes or so before my bedtime...

My favourite board games are dungeon crawlers and anything that might involve a little bit of story/role play. I blame Hero Quest for this (I was 12 when it came out and it blew my tiny little mind). I am currently trying to focus my design efforts on my own game of this genre, which I hope to start posting about soon on BGDF.

Anyways, look forward to chatting to some of you on here!

Cheers,

James

Now that you mention it...

I too am working on a quasi-"dungeon crawler". It uses a deck of fifty (50) cards for each "adventure pack". So once you get bored of one deck, you can purchase a NEW deck and play a completely different adventure.

Currently the "standard" adventure would be: the "Abandoned Mine".

Something like that. It's "quasi" because the game is encapsulated in a letter/game tile mechanic used by both the "Lore" and "Quest" cards. I've been working on various aspects of the design ... lately it has been character evolution (Gain XP points and leveling up, etc.)

Welcome and best of luck(?!) with your game!

Update: I will only be offering one (1) adventure with the initial "core". It will include:

  • 300 Game Tiles
  • 5 Tile Pouches
  • Set of 6 polyhedral dice
  • Damage tokens
  • Acrylic cubes
  • 5 Player mats
  • Rulebook
  • Plastic Tray
  • Box

It will also feature one (1) "Dungeon Delve" at 50 cards and 2 screen cards for the tops of the "Lore" and "Quest" decks.

Expansions will feature a new set of 50 cards + 2 new screen cards matching the theme of the scenario!

Thanks for the welcome

Thanks for the welcome guys!

Cheers Adam, I have been trawling through BGDL, listening to their great podcasts and also their excellent resources. A brilliant game design website!

These dungeon crawlers really are a dime a dozen, aren't they...? But seriously, good luck with your games too, fellas!

Greetings James

Welcome James,

I am also one like you, who has many designs that I have shelved. However, I am going to make this official and get a game rolling, and am in the process. Nice to meet you and hope your game goes well!
