Super units (how do players get them?)

I have rephrased the question.

My game allows players to place new units. And to be able to place a new unit, you need sufficient factories.

It is a matter of counting. If you don't have enough factories. A big tank can't be placed.

I am looking for a good mechanic that will allow players to build big tanks with fewer factories. But I want to prevent chaos in the placement phase of the game.

Has any one an idea?

I think I have thought of a very simple solution this time.
I am not to happy about it. But it actually suits the game the most.

XP can be used to upgrade any thing. This includes production facilities.

But this time, I allow players to choose between XP and money. IF they want to increase their Building Points on any factory. It is very expensive at the moment. But more of that in another topic.

Current solution

When having 1200 build points isn't sufficient.
And having a special factory that can do 2000 build points is stil not sufficient.
Players can now upgrade by paying money.

With my previous XP system, it was obvious that this was too much.
And I am still not sure if players would like this. But it costs only 50% of what it used to be.

Factories are the only exception on this rule that XP can be replaced by money. My precious players might demand for everything to have this option. Even though, it is very expensive to do so with units.

+20% in build points will cost on average €90 per 100 BP (0 ranged). So a player gains 20 extra BP.

When maxing out, even with a special factory. Players pay €1800 for 400 extra BP on top of 2000 BP. For those special units that cost 3600. A player needs to upgrade 4 times. That is a proportional investment of €7200 on top of the basic €3600.

Would you pay triple amount to have a double production?

Players might simply go for the alternative. Replacing another object with a second set of factories.

Maybe I make it cheaper, maybe more expensive. Play tests need to show.
