My friends and I have been putting this card game together. Please take a look at the rules and cards and let me know what you think. The files were too large to attach, so i have a link. We don't have a name picked out yet, so it is known as Project Blackjack. If you think of a good name for it we would be happy to consider suggestions.

With Love,

Eaglewatch

Just a quick reply.."Each

Just a quick reply..

"Each player is dealt 1 light or medium armor card at random, and then may draw 1 card from the draw
pile at random, and must arrange them appropriately into the correct pile. The player that goes first
starts their turn as described below."

This makes basically no sense, as it's right at the top of the rules, before any of that other stuff is defined. How do I draw a light or medium armor card at random? (is there a special armor deck?) What is in the draw pile? What is the "correct pile" and how do I arrange something appropriately?

General comment: Don't worry so much about the art and worry about the rules/card text instead.. you might be changing everything later.

Looks like a decent, light, combat card game. I have a few thoughts that you may want to consider.

LOTS OF TEXT
Generally speaking, your cards have a lot of text on them. I suggest you explain the cards with detail in your rule page, and then use icons on the cards instead.

AMMUNITION
Is there a reason you have different types of ammo? Are you completely married to this idea? Have you attempted the game with a generic "ammo" card that will work with all weapons? How about ammo tokens instead of cards?

TEAMS
This seems to me like it would support team play pretty well. You might even be able to increase player count to 6 or more if you do this, as well as develop additional actions that increase team player interaction.

OBSTACLES
I suggest you use the word "Cover" for these, since it's typically what is used to identify something shooters hide behind. Additionally, unless you want to give the different types of cover special abilities (which I personally think would be very cool), then remove all the text from them and just have your shield icon on them.

ACTIONS/PLAYER HAND
There are some decent equipment cards in there, but I think your game could use a greater variety of Actions. Having only one action available seems fairly tame, particularly if it's pretty much the same as some of the player's equipment. What about a "Scavenge" card? What about stealing cards from other players? What about sabotaging different types of cover?

Additionally, do you really need to prevent players from holding any type of card in hand (such as additional Cover/Weapons/etc.)? How do you plan on enforcing this? Perhaps a more elegant solution to this is to have no restrictions on the types of cards allowed to be kept in hand, but have a hand size limit and the option to discard as needed. Players will likely optimize their hand/loadout based on their personal strategy or anticipated tactics.

DVORAK
There's a open-source game system out there called Dvorak that came to mind as I read your rules. I suggest you have a look at that and see if there are ways you can implement their concepts of "things" and "actions" to add a bit more variety to your game. Additionally, there can be more victory conditions than just being the last-shooter-standing, although adding different win conditions to your game might take away from your original concept. Anyway, here's a link:

Hope these are useful suggestions. Best of success with your game! :)

Use the corners/pther thoughts

So the corners are the most import real estate on the cards. It is where people naturally look for a summary about information about a card. (Take a look at a standard playing card or an MTG card). Your card layout does not take advantage of this phenomena as effectively as it could. To make it easy for the player you could move these images into the corners. It will also make your art look less busy. I would recommend capacity in the upper left, hands in the upper right and hit or shield points into the lower right. The logic behind this is that players will want to look at capacity and hand number while the cards are hidden. The attack/shield info seems to be will be referenced when the card is use and face up. You may also be able to symbolize capacity with blocks and hands with hands. This may allow you overlay hands on top of capacity to free up the top left corner for attack/shields.

Some other thoughts. You may want to make either light ammo or medium ammo all silver. It may not be a realistic, but it would make it easy distinguish. On the ammo cards can you have pictures of the weapons that the correspond to, just like you did for the ammo on the weapons card.

Just a quick reply...

Jay103, Thank you for your reply. We will work on the wording a bit more, and be more defined. Thanks for the concern for the art, but we are not really worried ourselves. It was temporary to experiment with so we weren't using blank cards for play-testing. Do you have suggestions on what you think looks good? Any name ideas that come to mind for the game?

Thanks,

Eaglewatch

use the corners/other thoughts

Fri, we hadn't really done much work on the card layout yet, but this is very helpful. We will consider these changes when we look at our cards again- it's all about those angles. We like the idea about having pictures of guns on the ammo cards. Do you have any suggestions for the name of the game?

Thanks,

Left-Off,

Thanks for your reply. There's a lot of substance to what you said. We appreciate it and will need some time to go over it. But, another question, do you have any suggestions for names for the game?

Thanks,

Eaglewatch

Game Name Generators

Computers are so much better at this than I am at this point in my life. I recommend you start with one of these, and tweak their suggestion to fit your own preconceived ideas.

Naming attempts (Only since you specifiacally asked.)

I have limited abilities in the naming department, but since you asked, here are a few attempts:

King of the Hill Already Exists
Last man standing Already Exists
Kill or be Killed
Special Agents: Stand-off

For a back story you could have experiment gone wrong, causing subjects to try to kill everyone leading to the hunger games. [I am also not very good a story telling :)].
