[Edited/Updated]

Ok... So I'm asking for additional Monster ideas for the latest version of "Monster Keep" (MK). Here's what I have so far... (might help you understand what I am looking for...)

1> Dragoon. Basically a dragon-like Monster. He could have a fedora and be equipped with a machine gun (goon aspect). And maybe carrying a suitcase filled with cash (dragon hoarding aspect).

2> Skeletron. A half machine (robot) and a half undead Monster. He could have an antenna on top of his head for remote control or have an AI chip for a brain.

3> Jell-Ooze. A mega sized slime cube that absorbs the things within itself. The slime has very high defensive capabilities due its flexible and absorbing nature...

4> Sassquash. A forest like bigfoot with big feet and could be a party goer with a lampshade over his head. Sort of like a King Kong, the giant size variation could crush a man under one of his feet.

5> Vampfire. A vampire with a knack of putting out fires! This half fireman, half vampire is a real "renaissance" monster... And is complimented by his Bat Colony.

6> Demon Rider. A Demon Biker-Gang troublemaker. This rough-neck sets out to destroy his enemies with his Molotov cocktails and his Rat Pack. Using raw fist power (and brass knuckles), he's one physical force to be reckon with.

Those are the six (6) that I have fleshed out for the initial LAUNCH! Here are six (6) more that will need further development:

7> Psyclops. A Mentally charged cyclops with has one big Eye and one big Brain!!! He can use his will (thinking) to combat his opponents and throw them around like "butterflies".

8> Minertaur. A pairing of a gold seeking greedy dwarf and a giant bull who eats children for breakfast. He could use a wooden pickax to collect his gold and use his steel mace to crush his opponents.

9> Phantasm. A Ghost/Spirit with a split personality.
[Needs more development]

10> Terminator-C. Part Machine and part Orc, this cyborg is a deadly threat. With his laser sight vision and robotic components, it is surely a powerful opponent to battle.

11> Mumminja. What better but the combination of Undead Mummy and the skills and dexterity of a silent Ninja! Break out your Black Lotus and be prepared for some hand-to-hand combat this Black Belt Monster has to offer.

12> James Bones. The Undead Spy who loved you! James is re-incarnated as a fantastic combination of a Zombie Secret Agent. He seeks out flesh and human brains ... to feed upon (what else???)

That's what I have so far. I'd maybe like to add one or two additional Monsters. Any one have similar (or original) ideas?

Thank you for your input. Cheers!

Hmm... Maybe

5> "Vampiker". A cross between a Vampire and a Biker! Could have a brass knuckle and a Molotov cocktail. And some kind of Leather Jacket with Sun Glasses (Shades)!

That sounds a bit more interesting... And a bit more in-line with the characterizations that I am going for with the Monsters. Demi-Monster, demi-badass!

I see, here a short brainstorm

For zombies, you could look at PvZ2.
Plenty of choices there.

Especially if you make more variants of the same monsters.

***

Skate-leton:
A skelleton that goes around on a skate board. Being able to do parcour.

James Bon-es:
A skelleton that is a special agent.

You could take a look at maple story too.

Gutter-Goat (this goes a bit more for a horror with blood):
A goat that has as job, butchering. Looks like a nasty, smoking, in blood covered goat with an axe and knife.

You could take a look at asian monsters.
They often have half human, half animal hybrids.

I like the names you've got.

I like the names you've got. Brilliant way of making a unique stable of monsters! Skeletron in particular! My only problem with dragoon is that it already means something so the joke is slightly obscured. Anyway, some other thoughts:

Harpycock

Psyclops

Minertaur

Hmm... Cool beans!

I think I'll add two (2) of yours if that's cool with you??? I'm hoping to get nine (9) Monster "cores" and work out the rest afterwards.

6> Psyclops. A Mentally charged cyclops with has one big Eye and one big Brain!!! He can use his will (thinking) to combat his opponents and throw them around like "butterflies".

7> Minertaur. A pairing of a gold seeking greedy dwarf and a giant bull who eats children for breakfast. He could use a wooden pickax to collect his gold and use his steel mace to crush his opponents.

Thanks @Tim ... Those two sound neat to me... @X3M: I don't want too many undead, I already have "Skeletron" and "Vampiker" which are Undead Monsters. But thanks for your ideas... I think "Vampiker" is cool badass monster too! I will KEEP "James Bones" for later (I liked that one too...)

Maybe if I can get two (2) more??? NOT undead. Anyone else feel like sharing and contributing a couple good "Monster" "cores"???

I think this is the way to go...

Yes indeed this is the NEW "direction" for the game. Instead of only doing "predictable" monsters, I envisioned something more FUN. Something that the kids playing the game can ENJOY and add some ... comedic value. I think in a way it is original. I take partial inspiration from my Garbage Pail Kids!

Tim Edwards wrote:

But Dragoon as in Dragon-Goon is hilarious. And I picture the Dragon having a Machine Gun (Ranged attack) and a Fedora... He is so mafioso it's not funny!!! (LOL) Plus add to him a briefcase filled with cash... And voila the epic "dragon-hoarding" personality shines through!

I'm glad some of you are "feeling-it" because it just ENHANCES the experience when you have something that is original and FUN to play. I definitely believe this is the RIGHT direction for the game to go to.

There are still 2 "monster cores" missing... But I am going to start working on accessories and enhancements (literally). Some common, some specific... This is very exciting!!!

My inspiration comes from...

A bit of these:

While I never had a "Mr. Potato Head" it is such a ICONIC toy ... That nobody can really forget. Plus being a key character in the Toy Story movies... It's hard to forget that "face"! (LOL)

Monster Mash ... Never had or played. But I did search around BGG to see what was "out-there". Nothing like what I want to do... This is the CLOSEST "game" that I could find.

Lastly "Garbage Pail Kids" I used to OWN and collect. These cards had a mixed reputation (because some of them were very profane) ... But we loved them (at school) and so we collected and traded them too!

So that's where this NEW "direction" for Prototype #4 is coming from. Plus with the D&D STATS (I wanted something that could be simpler than requiring MATH with 1,000+ values). Maybe those larger numbers could work with an online game... But not the physical one. Just too complicated.

I hope this is the FINAL version of the game... I'm getting closer and closer to a game that is not only FUN ... but easy to pick-up and start playing! Cheers...

Going through the WORKS make me...

Understand why I need two (2) more "Monster cores" to be added for a starting total of nine (9) Monsters.

If anyone has any interesting ideas (again not undead... I've already got 2 of those) that are in spirit of combining two things together (or even plays on words like "Dragoon") ... with the feel of being "bad-@ss"!

Please do not hesitate to share... Would love to hear a few more ideas from some of our regulars (maybe)... Or newbies if they have something in mind.

Cheers and thank you for all your help!

Found some good names doing more research

questccg wrote:

Here are some of the changes that I am doing:

1> I changed "Jell-Oogle" to "Jell-Ooze" which can't be confused with "Google"...

2> "Vampiker" will now be "Vampyro". A Vampire/Pyromancer whose hellish rage is made of pure fire. Maybe looking at a ranged effect and/or weapon.

3> The "Biker" is now called "Revolution" and is a Horned Daemon. "Revolution" because of the turning of the motorcycle wheel... Not too bad, eh?

4> The last newbie is "Phantasm" a Ghost/Spirit. I need to figure out what it will have as characteristics ... But I definitely LIKE the name!

So that covers ALL NINE (9) Monster "cores". And I'm about 50% done of fleshing out the details for each one (5 out of 9 to be precise).

Cheers all!

Some other changes tonight

So "Vampyro" is now "Vampfire"... Same principles, different name. Still need to flesh out more ideas... But generally speaking the Monster needed more personality.

"Revolution" is now "Devolution"... Still a Daemon... But now also part biker! Again only a name change.

Cheers!

Note #1: Using that Ultima 3-4-5 syntax for Daemons. I like the extra "a"... Just some more referential material towards the old timers... Who knew and played the "core" Ultimas...

That's a nice one!

I don't know about Devolution, Quest. Unless someone knows the history of how you came up with it, it doesn't have an obvious connection with bikers. It seems quite random. To me, Devolution just means giving more power to local governments...:)

How about "Daemon Rider"??? Or maybe "Speed Daemon"?? Which of these two (2) do you prefer?

I agree "Devolution" isn't very good... It's a work in progress... Ideas-in and Ideas-out! Garbage-in and Garbage-out. Just a thought process working through various name ideas.

I'm thinking MAYBE "Speed Rider" is the better name. It's still not a ONE word name like the others... But for now it's the best name that I have...

I also could drop the "a" and go with "Demon Rider"??? It's kind of cool, no...?

Personally, I prefer Speed Daemon out of those.

Just thought of another one: Zoom-bie? (probably more rubbish in but it made me smile a bit. hehe)

Edit: Just remembered you didn't want more undead. Sorry! :)

hmm

I think you should expand your list first of known monsters. I see a lot of the same again.

But what if you start using idea's from horror movies?
Like Jack the Snowman, Chuckie, Gremlins.
Also, mobs from various games could be used.

Goblins are a very well known one in this regard.

X3M wrote:

I only want to start with nine (9) monsters... That's enough inventory for all the card and cost to produce them. Even nine (9) was three times (3x) what I wanted to start with (only 3 monsters).

I am trying to be "original" with NEW monster and I sort of wanted bad@ss ones like bikers, mobsters, firemen, etc. I already have a mobster "Dragoon" and my biker has "The Rat Pack" as an enhancement (Rats on choppers/motorcycles)

I was hoping for more bad@ss examples... Like "Vampfire" is part Vampire and part Fireman! I was looking for more examples of this type of Monster. But I do appreciate your participation...

You contributed your thoughts and for that I do "Thank you"!

(P.S.: Anyone else have some "fresh" ideas they'd like to offer up???)

Almost the while asian world

Almost the while asian world that adopted the WOW franchise. Considers the goblin to be one of the first monsters to encounter in adventure games and manga.

Another one would be slimes or giant frogs.
The goblin is relatively a normal one in this regard, does more killing, less other stuff....

I don't know about the legality of using some pop culture icons but what about The terminatOrc or Vamp Halen! (I know that you already have a vampire monster but I couldn't resist)

A more common one could be a Mummjia (ninja mummy)

A Lusharkdor (a shark in a luchador outfit)

Cool beans, I will add them to the LIST as things grow and become more and more popular! Thanks a LOT... Cheers.

@X3M: I added "James Bones" to the list too... Because I thought that was also a good Monster "characterization"!

Right now I'm thinking about SELLING a "Starter Deck/Kit" at $30.00 USD + shipping. This would be a 30 day pre-order only and it would get fulfilled after the full launch... What I want is a few things:

1> To be able to have a pre-order item that is quick and easy to purchase.

2> To offer something more affordable for the people who will help fund the 1st production.

3> Get customers to re-visit the webstore and make some individual purchase too (deck or monster customization).

I need to review my "cards" and determine better price points... But I'm willing to offer some SAVINGS in return for some "pre-orders" (or investment) in the game. We'll see what the market (and gamers) think!

More figures

Well I think I can get the game's cost down to $25.00 USD. And if my weight is GOOD, shipping down to $5.00 USD. I need to do a weight test and so I may order some cards SOON. I figure now because of COVID-19 there are good discounts for the cards presently.

I may buy a box of Card Covers (because I can re-sell them later) and measure the weight of one package.

It's really pricey doing it yourself from home... The Postal Service is the least expensive price-point given that I don't have a history of HIGH monthly sales which could merit a discount.

So keep you all posted... Surely I will order within the week. Cheers!

Note #1: I really believe that lowering the SHIPPING price to $5.00 USD will greatly IMPROVE pre-orders and sales there-after. The only thing I need to ensure is that my mailing is between 100 - 200 grams. Plastic is LIGHT ... But when you order 20+ cards... Could weight in the feasibility of this project/venture.

In any event, this will be confirmed SOON. As I plan to order the "card covers" from the manufacturer so that I can see the quality, durability and weight of the cards!

This sounds fun.

Some ideas I had:

Shad-oh - The evil shadow spirit of Homer Simpson. Loves doughnuts and beer. Strangles people.

Pala-Dan - An office worker with a strict moral code. Uses office supplies to vanquish evil.

Night Shade - A shade specter who does apothecary (utilizing night shade) to create poisons. Only comes out at night and is always wearing sleek sunglasses.

Captain Munch - Zombie Captain Crunch.

The Last Air-Bender - Bender from Futurama can manipulate the four elements.

Hoblin - A one legged goblin who likes to hobble people.

Pete Crows - A were-crow baseball player who likes to gamble in years of life.

Cheru-bum and Sera-bum - A pair of fallen angels who are down on their luck.

Carn-evil Freak Show - A band if murderous freak show staples. (FYI... This ones been done in video games and in MtG before.)

Cracken - A squid-like monster with dry cracked skin. Or a squid-like monster wacked out on Crack (but probably want to keep this more kid friendly).

Cthu-jew - Cthulhu Ben Shapiro, who causes his enemies to go insane with facts.

Thor(n) - A powerful god who wields a mighty hammer decorated with pretty flowers. Wears rose pattern shirt.

Swarm of Zom-bees - Undead killer bees. Wait, would it be a swarm or a horde?

Frank Sin-atra - A sinful demon/singer with mob ties. Can order a hit.

Skin-mocker - Navajo witch and animorph who loves to make fun of her victims before placing a bad omen on her victims.

The Abdominal Snowman - A yeti with ripped/chiseled abs. Is a meat-head who loves to brag about working out. Will rip off your arms and beat you to death with them.

GOATzilla - The "Greatest Of All Time" giant, radiation spewing goat. (I feel like I've seen something like this before, but a google search didn't show anything familiar.) Could also be a giant Satyr.

Philosoraptor - (Just google images this and you'll get it.)

Fanta-asm - The Fanta girls (The Fantanas) in spirit form. "Don't you wanta, want a Fanta!". Drowns there victims in fruity drinks.

Sperminator - Half robot, half sperm whale. (I know a few of you had your head in the gutter...)

Tinker Hell - A little fairy demon. Gives people the ability to fly... at least until they get a couple hundred feet up.

Jack the Ripper - A flatulent killer of prostitutes.

Minute-aurs - Minotaur minutemen.

Mentaur - A minotaur he loves to help others learn.

Ass-Ass-in - Noggle assassin.

Ex-Terminator - Killer robot that also does pest control.

Cent-aur - Penny pinching half person, half horse.

Scent-aurs - Half hound dog, half horse.

Everyone, let me know what you think.

Paladan, Pete Crows, Cherubum & Serabum and Thorn. I know you had a bunch of ones that were cool that are NOT in my list. It's because of the layout for each Monster. They need to fit in a specific "format". So the ones with a non-human-like body (like sperm-whale or Horse) I cannot use even if the puns are better.

But you've contributed a lot to to the list... So thanks for all your input.

Cheers!
