Hmm... Cool beans!

I actually looked into that spreadsheet with the results... And I was a bit shocked that the community rankings didn't much affect the judge(s) voting.

For example: Dig Site = #68 Community Vote Rank, 17 judge(s) points. And RANK #18 (in the spreadsheet).

I'm just wondering what was the basis for the Community voting!? Since clearly the judge(s) did not take into account that amount when scoring the game out of 20 points(?!) or more so that some games got poor reception from the community, but the judge(s) felt differently and that some of those games were worthy of better ranking...

Obviously there are 13 games with a score of 17 points. Just missing the mark of 18 judge(s) points to be the top finalists. So a game that was Ranked #68 by the community is in the TOP games (2nd position with 17 points)...

Really shocking!? Anyone care to explain this a bit... Just curious. I no doubt won't discredit the judge(s) opinions. It's just a bit surprising that the community came to a different conclusion than the judge(s)...?

Why such a stark difference in opinions???

I can't tell you how the judge came to his conclusions, but I can at least share the official rules process so you can better understand what the community part of the voting process is for, vs what the judge does.

Hmm... Okay that makes the community process more clear ... But

How does a Game like "Double Docker" with a Community Ranking of #73 make it into the top 7 Finalists??? From that link you sent me about the how the process is supposed to WORK, it would stand that only the Top 20 Community Ranking #1 to #20 would reach the list of Semi-Finalists and from there the Judge would trim down the Top 20 to the Top 5 or more (like Top 7)...

I don't at all understand the process taken with this particular contest.

Perhaps I am misunderstanding something from the link you sent me or the spreadsheet is not interpreted the way I see it...

Sorry... I'm just trying to "understand" how this process works. From the link you sent me ... There seems to be a clear process:

1. There are maybe over 100 entries. Community Votes establish an order from #1 to #100+.

2. The Top 20 of these become semi-finalists. The Judge reviews ONLY the Top 20 Community entries and choose his Top 5 (or 7, etc.) games who are now Finalists.

3. Finalist are made and shipped to the Judge for actual PLAY review. And the Winner is chosen from there.

That's what the Link/URL with the process says. I'm just wondering how a #73 gets to become a finalist...??? Can you explain that? Perhaps it's just me not understanding the process correctly...

Thank you!

You didn't read the whole

You didn't read the whole document I linked. Here's the thing you need pulled out:

If they feel it necessary, judges are permitted to add extra games to the finalist list from those that were not selected as semi-finalists by the community. To date, this has only happened once.

Now it has happened twice.

Ah okay.. I read that ... But was unsure...

Since it says that historically to date it has ONLY happened "once" ... I didn't know if that explanation made sense. Now that you've explained it... it makes 100% sense. The judge(s) took more time to review the other concepts and figured which additional ones to the Top 5 would be of interest and it turns out two (2) games were added to have Top 7 Finalist...

No worries... Make total sense. I just wasn't sure if that was the case.
