This is just a check-in post.

What games (not your own) have you been playing lately? And who are you playing with?

I'll go first. My wife and I just discovered Great Plains, which is a light weight area control game.

My Recent Games

Thanks for posting the check-in, Juzek!

Late this past summer, I picked up a copy of Tiny Towns, designed by Peter McPherson and released by AEG. Been playing solo sessions of it every two weeks or so.

I'm able to visit friends on rare occasions, and always bring my copy of House of Danger with me, juuuuuuust in case they're interested in having a go at it one of these days. Designed by Prospero Hall and published by ZMan. It's fashioned to look almost exactly like the Choose Your Own Adventure games of yore, and always tickles my nostalgia nerve. Haven't played it beyond maybe the first chapter's worth of encounters yet, and I'm looking forward to more.

I picked up a couple mainstream games from a thrift store and after learning them I'm interested in introducing them to some of my friends and relatives that aren't habitual game-players. This list currently has Sequence and Kings in the Corner.

On Board Game Arena, I play Can't Stop, Kingdomino, and other very-short games like Backgammon and Sushi Go!. One of my favourites in-person is Incan Gold though I've not gone into the habit of playing that regularly.

Great question!

I usually have a healthy stable of games on Board Game Arena and Yucata. Currently, I'm playing Agricola, Azul, Beyond the Sun, Clans of Caledonia, Downforce, Gaia Project, and The Crew.

When I'm in Philly for the weekend with my fiancé, we enjoy Great Austrian Hotel and Race for the Galaxy. On Sunday, my daughter is home for the holidays so I plan on teaching her Lost Ruins of Arnak, On the Rocks, Rococo, and Terraforming Mars Ares Expedition.

Cheers,
Joe

Going to try out Root this

Going to try out Root this weekend with family. I have been meaning to play it for a while now. I have been playing 7 Wonders, Qwixx, and Carcassonne.

Just wanted to give a shout-out to Carcassonne as an excellent title to bring out with family. The Over Hill & Dale version has gone over big with my younger relatives, while the South Seas version is my personal favourite, and has a bit more of a crunch to it.

In both of those versions, the artwork is very well done and distinctive. The mechanics variants introduced to spice up the original Carcassonne formula were well-conceived, particularly for South Seas.

Meanwhile... Have fun with Root! :)

I played the little kid

I played the little kid version of Carcassonne with my four year old two weekends ago. It worked really well for everyone!
