Those of us who were around back in the day can probably name quite a few of the games we were all working on at the time, and so some of you might remember Steve (siskny)'s and my game "Lost Adventures", which we originally envisioned as an Indiana Jones game with the serial numbers filed off (unless a publisher could maybe get the license, but that always seemed a bit speculative). This community was tremendously helpful to us and we appreciate all the suggestions and support you provided over the years!

I've elected to publish the game on my own imprint, with a KS this June and fulfillment by year's end. If thinking about this game and those happy early days of BGDF make you nostalgic, please take a look! Of course if you weren't around in those days, don't have nostalgic feelings for those days, or object in principle to the use of nostalgia as a marketing tool...take a look at the game anyway, it's a fun one!

I am not sure if I arrived in the forums afterwards, I should have joined around 2005.

You are just in time for the new Indiana Jones movie release.

Good luck with your game.

Thank you!

Yes, it was really the forthcoming movie that pushed me over the edge of publishing it. We've shopped it around to publishers for years w/o success, and I assumed it would just go in the "oh well" folder. But they announced the new film, and my thought was, well, there's going to be a lot of hype for this movie anyway, maybe we can ride along with it and find an audience that way. So, we will see!

Good luck with this venture,

Good luck with this venture, Jeff! The amount of work involved in self-publishing has always put me off. I admire people with the get-up-and-go to make it happen.

Thanks Rick! Yeah I never expected to be a publisher and never expected to find it enjoyable even if I did, but actually it's been fun. Certainly a fair bit of work, though, no doubt about that.

Effectively, self publishing

Effectively, self publishing seems scary for board game design. Even something integrated like Game Crafters, you always have some worry of not exactly knowing what the user will get in his mailbox. Of course, you could send yourself samples to test it out.

Self publishing video games seems less scary because you are building the final product yourself, but there can also be some complications during deployment.

Ah. So I can say that in my case, the advantage of doing small runs is that I assemble and fulfill the games myself. I buy the bits from various suppliers, have them shipped to me, put them in the boxes, box up the games, and ship them out. This is labor intensive for sure, but I actually found it enjoyable, and more importantly, no middlemen so any mistakes made are my own responsibility, and thus within my control to fix as well.

WOW! OK, still, a simple print run of 100 games can take a lot of assembly space. It depends on the size of the game.

I like the idea of manually crafting stuff, but I would not have the place to store all the material.

Besides my personal copies, I don't think I would make any artisanal version.

Now on Kickstarter

Just received notice that **Lost Adventures** is available for backing on KS. They're about a third of the way to their goal as of this message.

Best of success on your campaign, Jeff! :)

Thank you for the

Thank you for the well-wishes! And thanks for mentioning the KS. I appreciate all the help BGDF has provided us in this game's years-long journey to get to this point!
