'Changing of the Guard' here at BGDF

Folks,

It is with a heavy, but hopeful heart, that I have decided to step down as the main administrator of the BGDF. For those of you who have been here a while, you've probably noticed my involvement waning over the past years. This is due to many factors, but mainly it is because of increasing work and family schedule demands. Rather than let BGDF 'fizzle out', I have decided to pass the reins in hopes that new leadership will spark the community to new levels of participation, both here and in the greater board game community.

So, with that being said, I have decided to tap Sedjtroll (Seth Jaffee) as the new leader of the community. As many of you know, Seth has recently aligned himself as a designer and developer for the new game publishing company Tasty Minstrel games. With this experience, coupled with his involvement in the convention scene and his existing veteran experience here at BGDF, I feel he will do a lot toward promoting the community and furthering the initial goal I had when creating the community, which was to help people feed their passion for creating games.

In addition, I have also asked Seo (Ariel Seoane) to also step up as co-administrator, specifically to assist in the technical day to day dealings of the website and community.

Ariel is a distinguished artist and graphic designer in his home country of Uruguay, and he recently cowon the World Bank Street Addressing game design contest. Also, He recently completed the graphics for the Homesteaders board game.

Also, please note that Zzzzz (Dave) has stepped down from his administrative duties. If you have questions regarding BGDF policies, technical questions, or recommendations, please contact Sedjtroll or Seo from here on out.

Brykovian, MatthewF, Dralius, DnjKirk and Doho123 will still be lurking in the shadows as our faithful moderators, so they will be available as well to field questions. Rest assured I will not be leaving, but my role will shift to a more participatory and less administrative capacity.

I thank you all for all the great insight and enthusiasm you have provided over the years. Some of the games you have created have been nothing short of outstanding. I can't wait to see what will be on the horizon for your new folks as well!

Good luck to all! Now get out there and rock, and roll the bones!

Good Luck and Thanks for all the Fish

Thanks for all you do. BGDF has been an amazing service to the game design community, and I'm sure that it will continue to be for many years to come.

Play on

BGDF has been great, looking forward to continued involvement with you all. And you are all coming to Spielbany Right?

All great leaders know how to pass on the torch

It is a sign of a great leader that knows when his time is to move on and is able to relinquish leadership and pass on the torch to the new generation. Many solid leaders hold on forever, can't put enough time or effort to any one thing and finally the movement fades away. Congrats on managing such an awesome website for so long and we will continue to represent this same standard of leadership

Hey 'Horse, Thanks for

Hey 'Horse,

Thanks for everything you did. Without you this site and this community wouldn't have existed, and without this site a certain game called Gheos wouldn't have existed! So, thanks, thank, thanks!

Good luck to Seth and Ariel. I'm sure they will do a great job!

Cheers!

Hey Darke and Seth,

Just popped in (as one of them old guard-lurkers) and saw the handover. In echoing the above comments, just wanted to add my voice to the thanks and good luck to the both of you!

Cheers,

Toby / Nestalawe

Allow me to pause...

...and genuflect to our new captain. Now if only I was able to see your twitter feed from Chi.na!

Long live the king ... Hmm!

Long live the king ... Hmm! .. I mean the Admin.

Now go make some games and

Now go make some games and make us proud!

and vice versa

and vice versa my friend! Time to pull Infamous Games out of the ashes!

Thank you, it is because of

Thank you, it is because of this community that I design board games at all. Good luck darkhorse, but don't disappear completely, we still would love to see you around!

Thanks!

You guys are to be commended on building a truly successful community here, and I think commended again for being able to give up control of your baby, as it were.

BGDF is first and foremost in my mind as the place to be for amateur game designers, even when my own life intercedes and I am not able to check in regularly. Good luck to Seth, Seo and everyone else going forward.

-Mike

Thank you for BGDF!

Thank you for this great community, and for sharing your passion for game design!

Sorry to hear, but hopeful for the future...

This site has been very valuable to me and I am hopeful that you guys return to participate more in the future. My designs are better for the experiences and shared knowledge of the community.

I welcome the new leads and hope that those taking absences can return soon.

Thank you Darkehorse

Michael (Darkehorse), I can't thank you enough for starting this site - I happened across it years ago (circa 2003) when it was just starting up, I've been here ever since, and I've enjoyed every minute of it! Without the BGDF I would not have met several of the people I chat with near-daily, and without this website I am certain I would not have my very own board game coming out at BGG.con this year!

I've been under the radar at this site for some time now, mostly lurking in the forums rather than posting as much as I used to, but I still spend a lot of time in the chat room looking to discuss game design. I intend to reassert myself in the forums, and I'm hoping to inspire some of the other old-school BGDF'ers who are still around but mostly lurk, to come back out of the woodwork and participate in the site some more. I'm not sure how to accomplish that, or if it's even possible, but I plan to give it a try - to unite the old guard of the BGDF with all of the new members that have joined the site.

Of course, none of this would be possible without the efforts of Michael (Darkehorse) and David (Zzzzz), who have toiled over the site through hacker attacks, software switches, and all the ups and downs of running a website. So thanks Michael and David for founding this community and bringing us this far, and I hope to see you around the site!

Thanks also to all of the moderators for continued behind-the-scenes service (deleting spam, running GDS, etc, etc, etc). This community is a better place for it!

And finally, I think it's worth noting that although I am Head of Development for Tasty Minstrel Games, I do not intend to "mix business with pleasure" as it were... I would like to maintain the BGDF as its own entity, and not in any way connected to TMG or anything else.

So... let's talk about game design!

- Seth

Thank you, and welcome

Darke,

Thank you for your work in making BGDF into what it is today. This community has been incredibly helpful to me in my efforts to learn the art and craft of game design. It has also been an excellent source of new friends, some of which I have and some I have not since met in person. I am sorry that you can't participate as much as before, but believe me when I say I understand how the demands of work and family must take precedence.

Seth and Ariel, welcome to your new posts. Both of you are among the good friends I've made here, and both of you rank high in the lists of designers I listen to closely for good advice. I have confidence that under your guidance and with the assistance of the moderators, BGDF will continue to flower and prosper.

...and now, if y'all will excuse me, I gotta go work some more on my Rottweiler design!

Jo, Darke, thanks for

Jo, Darke, thanks for creating this exchange platform !!!

Thank you Leaders of BGDF!

It's great to come back and see this forum still alive and kickin! It must have had great leaders to keep this forum going for so long. Thank you for all your work and contributions here Dark Horse!
