A game with ships.

Couldn't sleep last night as ideas for this game were 'swimming' round my head...

The concept is that two coastal countries are invading each other at the same time, each having the same size navy to defend/attack with and each having the same number of coastal towns.

The object of the game is to get your troop transports into the opponents cities without them being destroyed by the opponents navy.

The winner is the first person to get his transports into all the opponents cities.

The board will be divided into squares rather than hexes as I believe hexes scare some people and this is aiming to be a 'beer and pretzels' game.

There will be randomly place islands that your and your opponents ships can hide behind i.e unable to shoot or be shot at.

Factors that need to be thought out: A point system-- i.e so many points for a succesful landing and so many points for destroying opponent ships. This is in the event that one navy gets wiped out, the player who wipe out the navy doesn't necessarily win and also focus' game play on landing your troops.

Different types of ships:
Frigates - fast but fragile with only 1 gun and wound. Occupies 1 square
Destroyers - Frigate killers with 2 guns and 2 wounds. Occupies 2 squares.
Cruisers - Destroyer killers with 3 guns and 3 wounds. Occupies 3 squares.
Battleship - The daddy but a very slow ship with 4 guns and 4 wounds. Occupies 4 squares.
Troop Transport - the point scorers reasonably fast. 1 forward facing gun and 2 wounds. Occupies 2 squares.

Each time a ship is hit and wounded it recieves a wound marker and one gun is destroyed, eventually all guns will be destroyed and the ship is removed from the board.

There will be a set number of ships apart from troop transports of which you start with 2 of them and get a new one each time one has landed/been destroyed.

Any comments or crits??

Cheers.
