Still looking, and other animals

Three more publishers, three more refusals. Oh, well and on we go.

Starting to wonder how people keep coming up with ideas for games. Maybe that's just the way the dice roll: some people get lots of ideas; some of us mere mortals, just one. Either that or I'm not looking in the right places.

I start to wonder if the design of the game is too fiddly, or something... or maybe it's just "not a good board game". Second guessing, over and over.

Onwards and upwards. KBO and all that.

Still looking for a publisher

Well, I've approached a publisher - even went to the Spieltag to pitch it in person; what a day that turned out to be. But all I got is, "Sorry, we'd love to but we can't."

I'm sure it doesn't help that my game is "merely" an abstract strategy game, not a game with a theme, as seem to be the most popular in this day and age. And despite wandering around the conference last year looking for companies who might be even remotely interested (besides the one I pitched it to), I couldn't find any: all I found were themes, themes and more themes.

British Toy & Game Fair: is it worth going?

I have a place at this year's British Toy and Game Fair as an inventor, and I'm wondering if it's worth the cost of going. Do games get picked up at these events at all, let alone from complete unknowns?

I'd appreciate peoples' views on this since I was going to finalise my plans this weekend.

My game

Well, I've done it, and there it is. For those who are interested - especially whoever it was who dared me to post it! - I've uploaded the details of my game. Something of a word-dump, I guess, since I pretty much just C&P'd the rules.

Here's a stupid question

I know it's a stupid question and doubtless one that's been asked before, but I'm going to ask it nonetheless in the hopes of getting a straightforward and simple answer.

How safe is it to discuss game ideas on here?

Now, before you all indulge in a fun game of jump-on-the-n00b and accuse me of impugning the characters of everyone here present and suggesting that behind the site's façade of deep respectability it's actually a hotbed of skulduggery, let me explain. See, the fact is that all the advice I've had from people is to keep the cards close to your chest.
