Well, I've approached a publisher - even went to the Spieltag to pitch it in person; what a day that turned out to be. But all I got is, "Sorry, we'd love to but we can't."
I'm sure it doesn't help that my game is "merely" an abstract strategy game, not a game with a theme, as seem to be the most popular in this day and age. And despite wandering around the conference last year looking for companies who might be even remotely interested (besides the one I pitched it to), I couldn't find any: all I found were themes, themes and more themes.
Is it the game? Is it the "current economic climate"? Is it me? --- I mean, is there some big flashing sign over my head that screams "LOSER" that only I cannot see? :-p

It is always hard
It is always hard. With the exception of Snag which was published as the winner of a contest the shortest amount of time between submitting a game for the first time and getting a contract has been two years. Most the others have taken much longer.
And yes Abstract games are even harder to sell.
