Finding retailers worldwide

Hi fellow boardgame-designers

I am new to this forum and currently involved in producing a new boardgame called King of Chicago. See www.Kingofchicago.info It's a strategic mafia boardgame taking place in chicago in the 1920ies. It's a game from 12 years and up for 3-6 players. You start out as a power hungry little fish and battle by battle you build your empire of fear and illegal businesses.
We are a small 4 person company from Denamrk called Tusbas www.tusbas.com and this is our first boardgame.
We presented a prototype at Essen Spiel 05 and the respons was overwhelming. Therefore we have decided to produce and sell the game ourselves.
Does anybody know if there exists a list or database of boardgame retailers worldwide ?
Hopefully we will have the game available and be ready to sell it within a couple months.
Any other help on how to sell our game would be very welcome.

Thanx

Look into distributors

I think you'll find that distributors are a great way to go to get the widest exposure of your game. Here in the US, Alliance is very big. In France, you might want to try Millenium. In Canada, Everest is a great choice.

For the UK, check out Esdevium.

Those are the ones that immediately come to mind. Good luck!

Finding retailers worldwide

Thanx - I know going through distributors is the easiest way. But those guys take 25 % - Does anybody have any experience going directly to retailers??

We do both

We work both with distributors and retailers. The problem with going directly to retailers is that many of them only want to buy one or two copies of a game. We've also found that many don't want to deal with several game companies. They'd rather call their distributor and say "I'd like to try a few of each of these 10 different games" then call 10 different game companies. That's been our experience, at any rate.

If you'd like to work directly with retailers, I'd recommend joining GAMA and going to the GAMA Trade Show. You've got to find the retailers and market directly to them, and that means a good amount of leg work. Start with ToyFair, GTS, and maybe ChiTag, and go from there.
