Cardians
A drafting microgame.

Players: 2
Playtime: 20 minutes
Ages: 12 and up

Game Setup
Build a deck consisting of 8 blue, 8 red, and 8 yellow cards. Use one of the pre-constructed sets or mix and match multiple sets to build a unique custom deck! Shuffle the deck and deal 12 cards to each player.

10 Rounds of Play
Each round, both players will:

  1. Play a face-down card across from each other and next to their previous card.
  2. Simultaneously reveal their played card.
  3. Swap and shuffle hands.
Step 1 Step 2 Step 3
[1][3][5][?] [1][3][5][2]   [x]]]]]]]]↓
[2][1][4][?] [2][1][4][3] ↑[  ]]]]]]]]

End of Game
The game ends after the 10th round. Discard the 4 unplayed cards. Both players add up their totals for each color. The player with the highest total in two of three colors wins the game. Whenever a color is tied, the player with highest card in that color wins the tiebreaker.

Game Depth

The component size, playtime, and short rules are deceiving. This is definitely not your average "filler" microgame, its a brain burner with bouts of analysis paralysis!

Why is playing next to your

Why is playing next to your previous card important?

Some card powers refer to adjacent cards (buff, debuff, conditional effects, etc.) so the cards are played in a row for easy reference.

Edit: I added some very basic illustrations using text.

Beginner & Experienced Rules

I will be adding Beginner and Experienced rules to the game instead of just the default "Master" rules.

The only differences is during setup:

• Beginner - Deal 3 cards to each player's hand and 9 cards face up to each player's draw pile.
• Experienced - Deal 6 cards to each player's hand and 6 cards face up to each player's draw pile.
• Master - Deal 12 cards to each player's hand (same as before).

And during rounds of play, beginner and experienced rules draw the top card of their draw pile as an added 4th step.

These are added to cut down on analysis paralysis and the amount of decisions a player has to make but also increases the level of luck with the random card draw.
