Hello Designers,

I have created an intro video for a boargame I'm currently designing and could need some feedback on it. The video-link is here:

https://youtu.be/NmrPJK03k3s

Note that this is the very first video I've ever made and that I tried some different techniques, so don't be too harsh please ;). Of special interest for me would be if the language/grammar is ok (as I did the talking in english which is not my mother tounge)and if you get a good impression of the game!
EDIT: I forgot to mention, that I used Tabletopia for a lot of the video's footage, and how awesome Tabletopia is for creating prototypes!

I'll have to add, that doing this vid was great fun and that I've learned a lot in the process, so I can recommend to everyone who is thinking of doing a promotional video to try it out, even if you are not familiar with those kind of things (I used the windows built in movie maker)!

Thanks for watching,

Chordcommander!

I like the core concept and

I like the core concept and presentation.
I don't like the visual aspect of the game itself. (but that's a matter of a personal taste)

As for mechanics, I`m not sure about those attack cards. Isn't the choice of where to hit essentially random? Or am I missing something, and there is some kind of logic behind choosing to hit the enemy in the face, or torso or elsewhere?

I really like the phase-based activation though.

Another thing: if you ever chose to go KS or whatnot, you might want to figure out how to make that presentation much shorter. Ideally, you want it to be 2-3 minutes long.

Can't comment on the accent, as I`m not native English speaker either. (There are people who would do a voice-over for you, though. And it doesn't cost tons of money. So it's not a big issue in any case).

Good luck.

Thanks for your feedback,

Thanks for your feedback, much appreciated.

To answer your question: (Unblocked) Attacks on different hitzones have different effects depending on the Actioncard the Attacker used. A bola attack for instance would deal 2 damage on the head, 1 damage and a slow on the torso and immobilize on the legs. The Attacker has 2 Attackcards, Defender 1 card most of the time.
Imagine the defender has only 3 Hitpoints left, and needs to move 2 spaces this round to secure an objective to win the game.

Attacker: I could attack head with 2 attackcards and kill him (4damage). But he will anticipate that and defend his head, and my attacks will do nothing. I could attack legs and torso, so he cannot reach the objective (he cannot block both attacks). But then I can only deal 1 damage maximum. Head and torso?

Defender: He isn't ballsy enough to go 2 times to the head, as he will expect me to block that. I'll block torso and will get away with te immobilize (who cares for objectives). But then, did you see the smirk in his face when he put down those action cards?

Choosing random constantly will put you at a disadvantage. There are situations, where you can choose randomly though.

I'll consider doing a shorter version of the video as you suggested, I know that 10 minutes are rather long.
I'm not very optimistic in regards of publishing(not sure if i want to/have the necesary time and ressources) as the theme/artstyle seems to put off a lot of people, it's kind of hard to get attention i feel.

Thanks again!

1) Way too long. Average

1) Way too long. Average attention spans won't make it even half way through that video. There are definite locations you can split the video up into several (Intro, Gameplay - Unit Activation, gameplay - Combat, conclusion/overview)

2) Language (written) :

@0:37 "and beat the crap out of everyone who is in your way" .. harsh and though it may appeal to a core demographic it will definitely turn off many.
@1:10 "For the loot" .. probably would sound better as just "For loot"

3) Graphics : The graphics are different, but can work as it's rather consistent. The font is a bit off-putting though.

@0:59 - The decapitated head with blood dripping is a bit graphic for the style of the artwork being used

4) The "Stay Tuned..." at 1:46 is out of place unless that's the end of your video asking people to stay tuned for the next video.

5) Language: Vocals starting at 2:00 - I would suggest hiring or finding someone willing to do the vocals for you. Someone who can speak clearly and with excitement about the game. I'd also suggest better sound quality as it is not particularly clear (it's a bit tinny and sounds like you're speaking in a can almost).

6) Starting with "What's left to say" .. cut that down, a lot. Maybe consider not speaking over that section as the text does the job for you.

6) On your website (not video related), "More infos about" .. get rid of that S on info.
"Post ideas in the comments section" .. there is no comment section on that page (yes, I know its in the menu but you should probably link it in your "post ideas" line.
On the comments page "tipps" .. one too many P's there.

Approach publishers. Make a professional looking Sales Sheet (there are all kinds of places to find advice on how to make these, such as http://iwillnevergrowup.com/publishing/sales-sheets/) and research what publishers may be interested in this style of game (http://www.jamesmathe.com/courting-a-game-publisher-dos-and-donts/)

Even if the artwork doesn't work for them, the game itself may and they will probably have someone do the art themselves.
