For anyone who is in the area, we're doing a play testing event, Protospiel corner, for the second year at DaveCon near Lansing, MI. We want to provide designers the opportunity to get some play testing in while giving the other attendees a chance to see the cool new things people are working on. Last year we had 4 designers participating and it went pretty well and we'd love to have a few more this year. You can find the details at http://lansingboardgamers.com/DaveCon, the submission deadline is 8/10/2014.

Great Event

This is a great event to attend. Very Friendly and designer supportive.
Lots of gaming going on for your enjoyment after the Protospiel corner is over.

What ages can attend?
I'd like to bring my 11 year old son.
Is there a way to find out if he would be allowed to participate in tournaments? Or just open gaming? Or playtesting? ( Though so far all the submitted playtest entries are 12+)

Yes, your son is welcome to attend as well - two of the organizer's children were there last year, and they have have a family price for that reason as well. There is not a specific minimum age listed, so I think as long as you exercise common sense and keep an eye on him you should be fine.
Open gaming is a free for all where people find games they want to play and other people to play them with so that shouldn't be any problem. Most of the tournaments are also low key, but for some of the larger ones like Dominion it would just be good to make sure he understands the rules really well and can play on his own.
As for play testing, as long as he meets the age criteria he should be all set, we'll be posting an 8+ game that a designer just submitted, so if he wants to he could participate in that play test.
