My name is Henry, and I'm here to see what I can learn about game design and maybe get some advice on my own works-in-progress.

I love board games, but the breadth of my experience is rather limited. I used to play quite a bit of backgammon and I still spend about 30 hours a month on chess; otherwise, I'm mostly a card player (crib and bridge when I was younger, and now poker).

Not surprisingly, my recent design ideas tend toward abstract strategy-card game hybrids, and I've been working on one in particular for the past 6 months that I'm quite excited about.

I'm not sure that others will share my enthusiasm, but I look forward to hearing people's reactions and suggestions, and perhaps contributing what I can in return.

A big hobby

Hi Henry,

I'm not sure what your goal in designing the game is, but it sounds like there's a lot of the hobby out there to explore. You might want to spend some time on the granddaddy of board game hobby websites, boardgamegeek, to see what people are doing and what they are playing.

That's assuming you're hoping to make the game in some way that people outside your immediate circle will want to play it.

It's a great, vibrant hobby, with lots to offer. Welcome aboard.
