New game idea, High school

Hey so I was sitting around thinking of ideas for a board game for a school project and I came up with one I'll call High School...aimed at children in elementary school.

Basically my idea is to have a round monopoly style board maybe and the kids playing it will go around 4 times for each year of high school and there will be obstacles like bullys, detention, etc... If anyone has any ideas of maybe how I can incorporate simple trivia or other cool things and the format of the game I would appreciate it...

stuck

debating on whether i want it to be monopoly style, you go around 4 times, and maybe have points earned during play by answering questions and such (educational game).

OR

just one road and it is a race to finish with obstacles, and winner is first to finish...

any thoughts?

me personally...

I'd avoid the monopoly style at all costs. But that's just me.
Its a good theme, but "High School" has a lot more depth than simply moving from point A to point B.
You should ask yourself, "what do you want players to do?" and "how do you want them to feel?" let those questions guide the first steps in the creative process.

already given is an excellent one.

Before you even begin thinking about mechanics and components, think about what sort of EXPERIENCE the game will generate for the players.

Will it be funny? Scary? Full of surprises? Puzzling? Fast-paced? Competitive? Collaborative?

You know what target audience you hope to capture: middle school kids.
What do they crave to experience in play?

Brainstorm Ideas

Hey zooman!

Good theme idea, I think you can really work on it!
I do agree with the other posts regarding thinking of the type of experience you want the players to have. But since I don't want to be redundant, here are some ideas I have that you are free to take and do whatever you'd like with. If you want, I could maybe help you develop this game, or at least playtest it. :)

1. You could make it so that students have to be sure to make it to classes on time, or else they'll get detention.
2. While in a class, they get trivia questions based on the class they are in. So for example in science they get science questions, etc.
3. Answering questions correctly gives you a better report card.
4. When moving around the hallways, you want to make sure to avoid the bully/bullies. Otherwise, they might put you in a locker or take your lunch money.
5. Maybe you could go for "extra help", which can give you tokens. When you are asked a question and you don't know the answer, maybe you can use a token to get a hint.
6. Because high school has a lot to do with your social life too, maybe you can join clubs and activities to get social points as well.
7. Perhaps the goal of the game could be a combination of your marks in school combined with your social skills score?

This might be WAY too much for elementary school children, but perhaps you can get a few ideas out of it to begin working with. Better too many ideas than too little!! :)

PLEASE READ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
my game idea is inspired by half grand theft auto and half fifa
its a game were you start at the age of 16 you live with parents and you can get part time jobs while playing for amateur football teams, scouts watch you and you can go professional you get money to buy clothes, cars, training clothes, football boots, houses, phones etc you can make friends and you travel to training in your car or a taxi you play games at weekends(fifa style games/leagues)
The free roaming would be like grand theft auto but no guns ,you could beat someone up but you would go to jail. You would have a calendar of each week and times to be places if you don't make it to places in time your manager respect would go down you would get sold and it would be game over if you got sold by a bottom team.
It would be best for ps3 and xbox360
This idea is like a story of a footballer it would be a complex game to make but would be an amazing game and would be the only game I would play, you wouldn't have to make this exact game but take ideas please i would so excited if there was a game like this please!!!
