Today a new bgg design contest was announced:

Looks very interesting to me. I have several mechanics and themes that I would like to experiment with and the deadline is still far away (April 1).

See also the discussion thread:

Looks interesting one that i certainly could enter. However, seeing that my job takes up all my time simply means that i will not partake with my own game.

However you do not need to

However you do not need to find many spare minutes per week to get a reasonable (small) game done in 6 months if you have a good idea. My biggest problem at the moment is choosing what project(s) to do. With so few restrictions in the contest there is nothing to guide me in one direction or the other, but I guess I just need to write a list of options and pick one.

Only testing

I volonteer for testing the solitair wargames.
Testing is easier than designing one.

Further more, I have read a lot already about the rules and discussion (page 1).
I guess, BGG will be getting a new member soon.

I will be very interested in the card game variants.
