Monopoly is Underrated: How to Play it Right

images.jpg

From: http://jesterstadiumgames.blogspot.com/2011/10/game-thoughts-monopoly-is...

Monopoly has a fairly bad repor with gamers. Just take a look at its rating on BBG. And to be fair, I understand why. If I invented monopoly today, it's unlikely I'd be able to find a company that would be willing to publish it. In fact, publishers would probably laugh at me behind their backs, thinking "who, now-a-days, would ever want to buy a game where you roll a die and go around a board in a circle?" The truth of the matter is, probably not many.

WIP - Solar Empire - a card based wargame

Solar Empire is a new card game I have developed this year, it will have two decks, United Planets and Andromeda Empire. Each deck has dozens of ship cards, also special effects cards and planet cards, so each player can customize their deck to their liking. The special effect cards are exclusive the each species, which gives each side a unique tech set and playing style. Each ship card is unique, the graphics, stats and names are individualized, so no two cards in the game are exactly alike, adding to the complexity of the playing strategy.

The CE mark for a board game

En71 can cover board and card game products, so manumfacturer can directly stick CE mark on their board game if all materials conform to En71. but manufacturer need have self-verification files. Test report from the third party or themselves is an important self-verification files. No matter the third party or their own lab, the labs must be recognized by National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment.

Modular Rules Example

For the expansion to Arctic Scavengers, I have introduced several new elements to the game design:
- Leaders that grant special powers to each player
- Two new mercenaries, several new tools
- "Gangs" that provide a new end-game scoring mechanic
- Alternate rules to add special abilities to two existing mercenaries
- Buildings that provide permanent bonuses or hand management options

One Last Try

If you read this blog regularly, i.e. when I post something you’ll know that I have been working on New Eden, previously known as Eden 1157B, for years and have had the worst time of getting the mechanics to work. I was hoping to self publish it this year and have once again missed my deadline to do so.

For those unfamiliar with New Eden here is an overview.

THE SPACE MONSTER

POTENTIAL SPACE MONSTER COVER ART

Hey, this is Steve from Toxic Bag Productions. Starting with "Dungeons & Dragons", Axis & Allies and Risk in High School to "Call of Cthulhu" and GMT games today, I've been a gamer my whole life. (And you shouldn't be surprised to hear that my dating life in that time has been….sparse)

About two years ago I decided to make my own board game. I had built up in my head what I was looking and hoping to find in a board game, and nothing on the market was meeting my ideas. So, I got to work, taking the general ideas and concepts in my head and somehow translating them into an actual game.
